Sleep is for the weak...

...and those who don't actually need it.

That's my thinking anyway, having had night after night lying awake, wondering why I was failing to get to sleep yet again. Each time the same, getting sleepy in the hour or so before deciding to go to bed, up until I can barely keep my eyes open, at which point I shut up shop (well, turn off the craptop), brush my teeth, and hit the sack...only to lie awake for the next three hours, turning over and over, and generally failing to do anything sleep-related.

Another tactic I tried was to get into bed, with music still playing, and try to get into a 'sleep mentality', which seemed to work fine, insofar as I would practically doze off to the soothing tunes. However, once I get to that point, and move the two metres required to kill the music and shut everything down, and return to bed, I'm back in the can't-sleep-won't-sleep phase again, no matter how tired I feel. Frustrating.

I'm not sure what to try now, as I don't know why I'm not sleeping. I've been getting up early, to try to tire myself out more through the day, as well as staying up later at night. I've tried various combinations of doing everything and nothing through the day, exerting varying amounts of energy, but to no avail.

Sleep is a wonderful thing. My bed is one of my favourite places in the world (whether or not it's sleeping that's going on). It's incredible the way the body can recharge itself like that, and pick up again with renewed energy - assuming you can actually get to sleep. And dreams...man they're cool. I wish I could remember more of my dreams, as they really intrigue me. A good dream just makes me want to stay asleep all the more.

Ayway, I guess eventually it'll resolve itself. Or I just won't wake up again when I finally fall asleep... Did you know, that if a person is deprived of both food and sleep, he will die of lack of sleep before the food becomes an issue? The more you know...

*photo is not an accurate depiction of author, either asleep or awake. Just so you know.
